Khilte Hai Gul Yahan

Another Kishore'Da song, very close to my heart. The superb combination of Kishore Kumar singing lyrics by NEERAJ (Gopal Das Neeraj, the famous hindi Stage-Poet) under superb composition of Sachin Dev Burman. These were the times when RD had started actively and remarkably contributing to his father's melodious creations.

The film was SHARMILEE - released in 1971, featuring a much too young, glamorous and slim (to the extent possible for her) "Rakhee" who later became "Rakhee Gulzar" in Double Role. Later on Rakhee matured into such a great body (pun intended) that she looked double, even when acting in a single role.

Shashi Kapoor was the male lead, an army-man with the talent for penning such beautiful songs (reminds me of Gautam Rajrishi)
Neeraj was at his prime during the period. Some of his tops belong to "Prem Pujari" and "Sharmilee". Look the way he plays an excellent host! Listening Gautam?

Dev Anand preferred Neeraj's Pen for quite a long spell. He could afford, being more than just the Hero (or Actor). Neeraj specialises in giving meaingful philosophical messages alongwith the romantic love-song, without being heavy on the ears, the heart or the Mahaul - for even a moment!

So does he accomplish here.

I like the silkiness woven by the words that Neeraj uses, the entire nature is personified; Lakes sing - Flowers have a heart.

The environment of surroundings has wonderful linkage to the heart and soul of a typical middle-class medieval Indian - admirimg the bountiful beauty of nature, with the heart aching for the beloved, helplessly witnessing the time slipping from the clutches, never to return...

Kishore'Da has rendered it the way no-one else could. Rafi Sahib was great, but this song required the manly, yet romantic-silky-smooth voice of Kishore Kumar only!

You listen it with lights off, on a moon-lit night, when your "Woh" is with you...

And a beautiful - gloomy yet romantic and sweet sadness will encompass the air, in particular if you listen to it from a distance...

On the roof, looking at the stars, cool night breeze slowly and slowly... with the clouds on the sky, but not the rains!

The Song becomes still more potent and deadlier during the Feb-March period - the Spring with the fragrances in the air making you feel the presence of Cupid, the ever elusive...
